Portuguese tech company implements a platform to optimize and digitize all of Fundação do Gil’s processes in a completely pro bono project involving 15 InnoTech professionals, along with support from OutSystems and Microsoft. GilTech streamlines and automates the work of social assistants, allowing more time for what they do best.
Lisbon, September 27, 2023 – InnoTech, a Portuguese technology company comprised of innovation enthusiasts, has just implemented a platform to automate the management of all Fundação do Gil‘s activities, from child admissions to legal and school processes and day-to-day operations. A comprehensive 360-degree digital transformation project that has eliminated the exhausting, complex, and time-consuming manual paper-based work, enabling the institution to focus on what truly matters: caring for the well-being, development, and reintegration of the vulnerable children it shelters.
Named TechGil, the project was realized through the volunteer technical skills of InnoTech professionals, who formed a multidisciplinary team to develop the web application using OutSystems, supported by Microsoft Azure infrastructure. Both companies also joined this initiative by providing their leading technology at no cost to Fundação do Gil.
“At the outset, our main expectation was to embrace a more sustainable vision and, above all, centralize all information about the children residing at Casa do Gil in a secure, efficient, scalable, and intuitive platform. Our expectations were widely met”, begins André Morna, Technical Director of Fundação do Gil.
Comprising skills in analysis, research, development, and testing, the InnoTech team made several visits to Fundação do Gil to firsthand experience the daily needs and challenges faced by social workers.
“The processes were based on physical documents, which, on the one hand, consumed resources and, on the other hand, did not allow for swift, simple, and centralized access to each child’s case. With the launch of the GilTech project, we gave the foundation’s professionals ‘time’ to focus on the children rather than bureaucracy, and additional functionalities that were highly valued were introduced”, explains José Padre Eterno, CEO and Founder of InnoTech.
GilTech enables swift data entry and updates regarding the children under the care of Casa do Gil. Its design prioritizes user-friendliness, regardless of the user’s level of computer literacy.
One of the project’s major advantages is the elimination of paper as the primary record, making operations more sustainable and providing easy access to a single source of knowledge with all relevant information about Casa do Gil, instead of multiple records for different information.
“The platform essentially serves the work of Casa do Gil, a reception center for children and young people aged 0 to 12. It materializes as a solution for user management, allowing the Foundation to keep up with technological advancements in a pioneering project grounded in a pragmatic and ecological vision”, emphasizes Fundação do Gil’s Technical Director.
The application makes the entire process of admitting children to Casa do Gil more agile and reduces the workload of social workers related to document submission to courts and other entities.
“It’s an extremely important project, considering that it standardizes procedures, ensures greater precision, streamlines various tasks, including daily form filling, reporting, and visits by family members, and optimizes administrative work time, allowing for more time and attention to the child. The new platform automates tasks, consolidates information in one place, guarantees greater accuracy and description of facts and data, better organizes and stores information, and also acts as a reminder in situations such as vaccinations, appointments, and birthdays, ensuring better care for the sheltered child”, says André Morna.
The GilTech Project had the availability of various InnoTech employees from diverse areas of expertise. Among professionals in programming, design and architecture, project and product management, as well as analysis and quality assurance, more than 15 were involved in various stages of maturity.
“It was a completely pro bono project, relying on the goodwill, solidarity, and responsibility that each participant feels toward society. It is immensely satisfying to see the results of our work and to put innovation to work for people in this way. Clearly, one of our distinctions lies in the mark we leave wherever we go and with whom we interact.
